Ray covers New York Jazz Trumpet player.

Trumpetman

New York trumpet player Mark Rapp recently commissioned Ray Masters to paint the cover art for his first CD release, the self titled Mark Rapp.

There are 3 types of musicians: top emerging, top current and top legendary. According to DownBeat Magazine, Mark Rapp is a “top emerging jazz trumpeter.”

The new piece entitled Trumpetman, is a large and bold rendition of Rapp as a half man half trumpet. Ray has used this surrealistic style in previous works including his homage to Gregg Moore.

Hidden and subtle background washes suggest the city of New York. The musical notes coming from the mouth of the trumpet seem to morf into a singing mouth. While the symbols on the right suggest the trumpeters name and maybe an audience too.

The artwork will be featured very predominantly on the cover of this forthcoming release.
